ArtBeat Fair is a wide-ranging exhibition created by artists, inviting the public — from seasoned art lovers to enthusiasts and the simply curious — to see, hear, and feel art like never before experienced in Portugal. Around 10 artistic disciplines and 50 artists from over 15 nationalities will come together at the iconic Torreão Poente da Cordoaria Nacional on June 27, 28, and 29, 2025. Admission is free, and the event promises to be a stage for the fusion of artistic languages, harmonizing musical performances ranging from classical to electronic. Yes, art will join the beat at the end of June.

ArtBeat Fair is an original project born from the vision of three multidisciplinary artists, an entrepreneur passionate about art and music, and the 50 participating artists from more than 15 countries — an international showcase created without banners or patrons, but filled with purpose and ambition: to celebrate art as the vital pulse of humanity — constant, plural, sensitive, rhythmic, and essential. This is the core idea behind the name of the exhibition: the beat (and bit) of art that gives rise to ArtBeat.

From diverse backgrounds and profiles, Liliana Oliveira (Portuguese painter, photographer, and web designer), Luc Bernay (French painter), and Roberto Grosso (Italian visual artist working across music and technology) will curate the exhibition’s visual and plastic arts. Portuguese entrepreneur and music enthusiast Luís Mesquita will curate the musical dimension of the fair, bringing a fresh rhythm to the event with three days of performances — from classical concerts and live acts to DJ sets, world music, rare instruments, and collaborations with renowned institutions such as the National Conservatory.

There is much to discover at ArtBeat — the eye gets lost in a fascinating and plural universe: metal sculptures with mythical inspiration coexist with delicate organic ceramics, while hyper-expressive paintings — from portraits to landscapes, flora to the human figure — narrate emotions, gestures, and silences. The exhibition spans a surprising variety of styles and media: from encaustic paintings with pigmented wax to contemporary tapestries, thread installations, metal works, watercolors, symbolic realism, collages, and artworks that seem to breathe. There are faces staring back, bodies in motion, vibrating lights, and pulsing nature — all within a single, free, and vibrant exhibition.

But what truly makes ArtBeat unforgettable are the stories behind each work. Many of the artists left behind “secure” careers — from engineering to biology, from architecture to communications — to follow the creative impulse that stirred within them. There are self-taught talents, travelers, teachers, gallery owners. The youngest is 22; the most experienced has decades of reinvention behind them. This is an art fair where aesthetic diversity meets human diversity: a space where art is not only technique or object — it is also a life choice, a new beginning, an act of resistance, and a form of intimate expression.

The ArtBeat Fair art curators — Liliana Oliveira, Luc Bernay, and Roberto Grosso — share a unified vision and mission in shaping the exhibition and inviting artists to take part in it:

“With ArtBeat Fair, we’ve created a democratic exhibition — open to all. We believe that art should not live only in museums or the realm of imagination: it should be able to enter our homes, our workplaces, our daily lives. This is an accessible showcase, yet one that never compromises on quality or beauty — a gathering of artists and artworks of great aesthetic value, which speak to different sensibilities and are within reach of anyone who appreciates, feels, and lives art, regardless of their cultural background.”

Music takes a central role at ArtBeat Fair — not only as performance, but as a full, living, multifaceted form of artistic expression, seamlessly integrated into the exhibition. Featuring around 15 musicians and organizations, the dialogue between visual, multimedia, and sound arts includes contributions from the Artistic School of the National Conservatory, classical pianists, renowned violinists, international saxophonists, and a master of the kora — a magical instrument from the West African griot tradition. Joining them are visionary DJs, sound artists, and creators of immersive experiences who use sound as a tool for healing and inner connection.

Curated by Luís Mesquita — who will also perform as a DJ — the music curator emphasizes:

“These musicians come from jazz, house, African music, improvisation, or classical composition, but also from design, therapy, advertising, or even football — unexpected paths that converge at a common point: emotion. From the most intimate recital to the dancefloor, from meditation to movement, these artists show that music is a universal language — accessible and vibrant — capable of bringing together audiences, cultures, and states of mind in the same rhythm in which we view the artworks.”

An open, inclusive, and dynamic exhibition with free admission, ArtBeat Fair positions art as a bridge between generations and geographies, as well as a stage for the fusion of artistic languages. The fair is expecting over 5,000 visitors, including the general public, professionals from the sector, embassies, companies, and national and international institutions.
